IMO it's a pretty well-made toy, but it fails to excite me. * Boxy truck mode looks OK, but relies on the tarp shield to cover its robot bits. The fact the whole cab section is completely made of transparent plastic painted over doesn't help either. * The robot mode is pretty solid, except for the main torso/cab section, which shows off its hollow box nature form most angles except the front and above. * The robot's face and jaw are two different tones of metallic paint, and the line between the two is kinda misplaced/sloppy on mine and another I've looked at. * Exactly how 'Bulkhead' the toy is largely depends on your own interpretation. * Transformation is more complex and involved than one might expect from looking at it, but not difficult once you get the hang of it. * The arms and legs are largely devoid of obvious hollow spaces. I like that the clear 'energon cannon' has some painted details. I guess many people will add more in depth pictures show all the potential of this toy.* Articulation and posing is quite good for a 'bulky' guy. The only main problem I'd see, is getting behind the whole concept of G1ification of all the characters.Īlso, am I the only one to think about Animated Wreck Gar when I see this truck mode ? I'd LOVE a remold into that character with a new backpack. So a pretty good figure with good engineering (I like the side tanks folding into the legs) and despite the hollow chest, it feels solid to handle. The material is dark enough to pass as a real one. Eve n the clear plastinc gatlin gun is not so strange. And the resemblance with AOE hound is even more stricking here. In robot mode, despite the Prime Bulkhead head sculpt, the silhouette is more on the Animated style, especially with those panels behind the head. To me, it leans more toward the AOE Hound (that is a "movie Bulkhead" in my book).īut clearly, there is little to no common point with prime Bulkhead.

Truck mode may try to evoque the original Bulkhead (the Animated one) but not really as it's not really an armored vehicle (there is even no roof lights). That can be confusing at times but once you get the hang of it, it's okay. Except on the waist part when turning it from robot to truck. The transformation is complex but not too much.

I was mainly aiming at Blaster but didn't find it and took Bulkhead as a "consolation prise".Īnd I was pretty surprised by how much I liked it. Am I the first to write a Legacy Bulkhead review ?
